Our History & Legacy
Coburn’s Catering began in 1946, when Otha T. Coburn and his wife Marguerite (“Marge”) founded the business in Fort Worth. The company got its start operating the food and beverage service at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation (now Lockheed Martin) while also running an outside catering operation at the original Triple XXX Drive-In on North Main Street. That same year, Coburn’s took over concessions for the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, beginning a legacy that continues uninterrupted to this day.
The business quickly became a family tradition. Otha and Marge’s sons, Gary (who passed in 2002) and Jerrell, grew up in the business. Today, Jerrell, his wife Pam, and their son Steve Coburn carry on that legacy.
As Steve Coburn, now the owner and operator, explains:
“I was born into it. My father was born the year my grandfather started it. I started working when I was eleven. My fifteen-year-old son started when he was eleven. My eleven-year-old started this year. It’s not for everyone — you have to love to serve people.”
That passion for service — and for family — remains at the heart of everything Coburn’s does.
“Family business can be great or an absolute nightmare,” Steve adds with a laugh. “If everyone gets along, it works. We do stuff together. We like each other, so it works. My wife sits eight feet away from me most of the day. My mom sat twelve feet away from me for years. She’s semi-retired now.”
Through decades of dedication, hard work, and community trust, Coburn’s has grown into one of North Texas’s most respected catering companies, a living tradition built on family values, genuine hospitality, and a true taste of Texas.
